Parloknath Mat De (CTO - Samsung) :
Samsung: Hello folks, I'm Dr. Parloknath Mat De, the Chief Technology Officer at Samsung India. We look into how hardware and software can both be applied at different levels to create more consumer products.

    Andy Rubout (Founder, Android) :
Android: Hello, I'm one of the inventors of Android. I didn't work for Google, but my technology was acquired by it later. We're proud to have created the platform that runs most of today's smartphones.

Plague Federighi (SVP - Software, Apple) :
Apple: Hi, Plague here. I work at Apple and head the software design and development vertical. I feel proud to have created iOS and macOS, along with other operating systems.

    Alex Glee (User) :
User: Hey friends, you may have heard of me. I'm Alex Glee - the most passionate Apple fan. I waited 32 hours in a queue for iPhone 4 and then broke my own record by standing for 50 hours to buy an iPad 2.

  • User Avatar

    Andy Rubout (Founder, Android) :
Android: Since we have 2-2 proponents of both Android and iOS, why don't we do something new?

  • User Avatar

    Alex Glee (User) :
User: New is good, Apple always does something new. For a change let Samsung and Android do that, too.

  • User Avatar

Parloknath Mat De (CTO - Samsung) :
Samsung: Ha! Here it is - the uninvited smugness and inflated ego that comes free with all Apple products.

  • User Avatar

Plague Federighi (SVP - Software, Apple) :
Apple: Oh really? And does sarcasm come free with a position at Sam'dung' senior management?

  • User Avatar

    Andy Rubout (Founder, Android) :
Android: Guys, this was precisely what I wanted to avoid. In the 2016 US Presidential elections, a citizen asked a question in the debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. He asked each of them to say good things about their opponents. And they both did.

  • User Avatar

Parloknath Mat De (CTO - Samsung) :
Samsung: Are you suggesting that we switch places? I'm tired of role play after 15 years of marriage.

  • User Avatar

    Alex Glee (User) :
User: Okay, let's do that. But if we have to speak good about Samsung and Android, wouldn't we be out of things to say within 2 minutes?

  • User Avatar

Plague Federighi (SVP - Software, Apple) :
Apple: Alex, stop it. They are pretty good in many areas.

  • User Avatar

Parloknath Mat De (CTO - Samsung) :
Samsung: True Plague, and so is iOS in a few. They play to their strengths quite well.

  • User Avatar

    Andy Rubout (Founder, Android) :
Android: So what are we waiting for? Plague, would you like to go first?

  • User Avatar

Plague Federighi (SVP - Software, Apple) :
Apple: The silent battle between us has been going on for eight long years and has two different underlying philosophies, two different types of users, almost two different worlds. One side values stability, ease of use and simplicity (this is Apple's iOS) the other side values openness, choice and customization.

  • User Avatar

    Alex Glee (User) :
User: And this battle isn't silent anymore. Legal battles are dragging on through years, and both parties are paying millions of dollars in compensation and settlements. It is creating waves and starting to divide the civilized world into two.

  • User Avatar

    Andy Rubout (Founder, Android) :
Android: Well, we never set out to compete with iOs. Android was an experiment. When we created it, it was a software for digital cameras. But gradually, we realized that we need to target a bigger market, and hence we moved to phones.

  • User Avatar

Parloknath Mat De (CTO - Samsung) :
Samsung: Yes, Samsung had been manufacturing phones for some time, but we had a primitive, old software. Do correct me if I'm wrong, but Android wasn't first developed for touch screens. It was only after the iPhone launch that Android thought of abandoning keys for a touchscreen.

  • User Avatar

Plague Federighi (SVP - Software, Apple) :
Apple: We had a similar challenge with iOS, too. We could have either made a bigger iPod or a smaller iMac. We experimented with both and ultimately fit our PC software into a phone.

  • User Avatar

    Andy Rubout (Founder, Android) :
Android: There is a brand image that Apple has - and people blindly take whatever Apple serves them to be good. There have been experiments where Android was run on Apple hardware and shown to users. They simply thought that this was a new design.

  • User Avatar

    Alex Glee (User) :
User: It's not that the users dislike Android. We just love Apple more.

  • User Avatar

Parloknath Mat De (CTO - Samsung) :
Samsung: Yes, I do believe their love is justified. With Android being an open source software, we can customize it to our phones' hardware. But iOS is created for particular hardware hence its performance is going to be better.

  • User Avatar

    Andy Rubout (Founder, Android) :
Android: Yes, Android runs on mobile, tablets, TVs, cars, refrigerators, etc. And it cannot always be applied perfectly since it has been not created for specific devices. Hence, the same performance which a 3GB RAM gives in a Samsung/other Android can be achieved in Apple with 1GB RAM.

  • User Avatar

Plague Federighi (SVP - Software, Apple) :
Apple: That's so nice of you. Android is very good itself, too. The open source technology is free to the global community of developers. Perhaps that's why the Play Store has 100,000 more applications than the App Store.

  • User Avatar

    Alex Glee (User) :
User: Although I'm a hardcore Apple fan, Android products are easier on the pockets too. Almost anyone can afford a smartphone, thanks to Android.

  • User Avatar

Parloknath Mat De (CTO - Samsung) :
Samsung: What do you have to say about performance?

  • User Avatar

    Andy Rubout (Founder, Android) :
Android: iOS, on an average, is better with touch, sound, and user-simplicity than Android. Apple takes just 75 milliseconds to respond to touch while a regular Android phones take 115 milliseconds.

  • User Avatar

Plague Federighi (SVP - Software, Apple) :
Apple: But the high-end Android phones, especially by Samsung, Google and HTC are better than iPhones in these areas too.

  • User Avatar

    Alex Glee (User) :
User: And look at the feel! With a variety of widgets, launchers and applications; android phones can be changed by their users to give the look and feel they want.

  • User Avatar

Plague Federighi (SVP - Software, Apple) :
Apple: Alex, don't forget USB, bluetooth and HDMI connectivity that our phones lack.

  • User Avatar

Parloknath Mat De (CTO - Samsung) :
Samsung: No - iOS does make it up with Facetime, iMessenger, AirDrop, etc. You're all about simplicity.

  • User Avatar

    Alex Glee (User) :
User: Yes, they're about simplicity. In their marketing material, Apple never uses words like gigahertz or Qualcomm because as users, we don't understand it. They use retina display or end-to-end glass.

  • User Avatar

Parloknath Mat De (CTO - Samsung) :
Samsung: We are trying to get there. I admit that in 2011, our Strategy Plan put priority No. 1 is BEAT APPLE.

  • User Avatar

Plague Federighi (SVP - Software, Apple) :
Apple: That's fine. Steve Jobs (may his soul rest in peace) had declared a Holy War against Google and wanted to tear down the company.

  • User Avatar

    Andy Rubout (Founder, Android) :
Android: Yes, Google is problematic. Every software update that Google releases takes time to reach the user since the hardware company first need to change it as per each of their devices.

  • User Avatar

Parloknath Mat De (CTO - Samsung) :
Samsung: Keeping up with software updates is problematic. We've wanted to dump Google since ages. Hence, we are also looking at developing our own software. We have extensively analyzed Apple softwares to make improvements.

  • User Avatar

    Alex Glee (User) :
User: Don't worry, Apple cares more about the competition than they say they do. Haven't there been e-mail releases where Apple admits that Android is better in notifications, speech, etc.?

  • User Avatar

Plague Federighi (SVP - Software, Apple) :
Apple: Yes, Apple consumers demand features that we don't provide, but Android does. But we do take our security settings pretty seriously. In spite of this, a company called Beyond Trust managed to find 127 security flaws in iOS.

  • User Avatar

    Andy Rubout (Founder, Android) :
Android: Forget it. With an open source software, we can't even estimate how many such flaws would be there in android. Thousands perhaps. Every device may create its own problems.

  • User Avatar

Plague Federighi (SVP - Software, Apple) :
Apple: People who are really serious about software should make their own hardware. Its time that Google starts making more phones and Samsung create its own softwares.

  • User Avatar

Parloknath Mat De (CTO - Samsung) :
Samsung: Yes, let's see how this turns out.

  • User Avatar

    Alex Glee (User) :
User: All the very best to both your companies. Keep creating awesome products for us!
